Natsai Audrey Chieza is a materials designer, a systems thinker, and the founder of Faber Futures. She envisions how designing with living systems and emerging biotechnologies can be an answer to contemporary challenges of resource scarcity, climate change, and sustainability. Chieza is a pioneer in biopigments for textiles: she dyes textiles with Streptomyces bacteria. As Ginkgo Bioworks’ first ever artist-in-residence (Boston, USA), Chieza has designed and built custom tools to create graphic textile prints, and produced the first bacteria-pigmented garment, which relies on a new approach on pattern cutting for in-vitro dyeing.
